Big Boss is back again to face the ultimate challenge

Metal Gear Solid V is the last installment of the legendary Metal Gear saga by Hideo Kojima (also by Konami, but who cares?). This time the storyline deals with our beloved Big Boss. For those who aren´t familiar with the deep story of the game, Big Boss is actually Snake´s father, and you can play as him in Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater.

One of the coolest things about the game is that this time Metal Gear has been turned into an open world with dozens of side missions to complete. Of course you can choose how you want to act. You can get pass through all the guards using stealth without spilling blood or you can simply call a tactical bombardment and send them all to hell. You are totally free to choose. You can also choose a companion like a dog or the mysterious Quiet, a skilled sniper that can cover your back.

Pros

  • Open world, loads of side quests
  • The storyline is just beautiful

Cons

  • The name of Mr. Kojima doesn´t appear on the cover. What a shame, Konami.

Review

Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain is the latest release in the Metal Gear Saga. Developed by Kojima Productions, directed and produced by Hideo Kojima and published by Konami, this installment, together with Ground Zeroes, compound the Metal Gear Solid V game. The story serves as a continuation of the events that happened in Peace Walker and Ground Zeroes, and the gameplay remains similar. Stealth and secrecy are the main factors when playing. However, and as in the previous installment, the videogame has a much more open world.

This installment, together with Ground Zeroes, compound the Metal Gear Solid V game

By using the Fox Engine, Kojima has optimized the graphics and physics of this release. Thus, you will be able to enjoy every aspect of the environment and the characters, from the eye color and scars to particles of dust in the air. Furthermore, voice acting is performed by Hollywood stars such as Keifer Sutherland (as Solid Snake), Troy Baker or Stefanie Joosten.

Story and Stealth

As previously mentioned, the storyline follows the events of Ground Zeroes. After the destruction of Mother Base (base of operation of MSF), our hero, Snake, falls into a coma. He wakes up nine years later, with atrophied muscles and a hook instead of his left arm. A strange man called Ishmael says that he is his acquaintance and tries to help Big Boss by injecting him with Digoxin. Thanks to this medicine, Big Boos recovers some of his motor functions. However, the hospital is attacked, and Snake has to flee. His old friend, Ocelot, rescues him and together they go to Afghanistan to save Kaz. Once it is done, Big Boss wants revenge and creates a new mercenary group to investigate the events of the Mother Base.

Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain features a massive open-world. Stealth is still the basis of the gameplay, but with such a huge world, some features have compulsorily changed. Now you cannot be spotted from anywhere: developers have added some new elements to help you remain unnoticed. This new addition is an alert stage. Once you defeat someone, QCQ or you see a coming vehicle, this alert stage will be activated. In this way, you will be able to hide and avoid being noticed.
